Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes National Park
Arrive in Kigali and meet your driver-guide for a briefing before transferring north to Volcanoes National Park. Enjoy a scenic drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills and terraced countryside. Check in at your lodge near the park, relax, and prepare for the primate adventures ahead.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a gorilla trekking briefing. You will be assigned to a gorilla family and then begin the trek into the forest. The hike may take several hours depending on the location of the gorillas, but once found, you spend one hour observing them in their natural habitat. Return to your lodge for lunch, relaxation, and overnight stay.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking and Transfer to Lake Kivu
Enjoy breakfast and return to the park headquarters for golden monkey trekking. This experience is shorter and easier than gorilla trekking, but equally exciting as the monkeys leap through the bamboo forest. After the trek, transfer to Lake Kivu for dinner and overnight stay by the lakeside.

Day 4: Lake Kivu to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, continue to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Along the way, enjoy Rwanda’s beautiful western landscapes and lake views. Arrive in time for lunch, then take the famous canopy walk for panoramic views of the rainforest and surrounding hills. Spend the night near Nyungwe.

Day 5: Chimpanzee Trekking and Transfer to Kigali or Midway Stop
Start the day with an early breakfast and chimpanzee trekking briefing. Enter the forest in search of the lively chimpanzees as they move through the trees and call across the canopy. After the trek, continue your journey toward Kigali or stop en route depending on your travel plan and lodge arrangement.

Day 6: Transfer to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, travel east to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s only savannah park. Arrive in time for an afternoon or evening boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, and many bird species. Overnight near the park.

Day 7: Game Drive in Akagera National Park
Set out early for a full game drive through Akagera’s plains, lakes, and woodlands. Look out for lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalos, antelopes, and rhinos. Return to the lodge for lunch and rest, then enjoy a second relaxed drive or lakeside evening depending on your package.

Day 8: Return to Kigali
After breakfast, leave Akagera and drive back to Kigali. Depending on your departure time, you may enjoy a short city tour, souvenir shopping, or direct airport transfer for your onward flight.
