This 5-day self-drive primate safari takes you to two of Uganda’s most incredible primate destinations: Kibale National Park for chimpanzee trekking, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for mountain gorilla trekking. A perfect safari for wildlife enthusiasts.

Day 1: Kampala to Kibale

Drive from Kampala to Kibale National Park via Fort Portal. The scenic route passes through tea plantations and the Rwenzori Mountains. Arrive in the afternoon and take a guided nature walk in the forest. Overnight near Kibale.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale

Early morning chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest. Kibale has one of the highest densities of primates in Africa, including 13 species. After trekking, visit the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary for a nature walk with excellent birding. Afternoon drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Day 3: Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi

Early morning game drive in Queen Elizabeth, then drive south to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park via the Ishasha sector to see tree-climbing lions. Arrive at Bwindi in the late afternoon.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Full-day gorilla trekking experience in Bwindi. After briefing at park headquarters, trek through the dense forest to find a habituated gorilla family. Spend one hour with them. Celebrate with the porters and guides afterward.

Day 5: Return to Kampala

Depart Bwindi after breakfast and drive back to Kampala, with a stop at the Equator for photos and souvenir shopping. Arrive in Kampala by evening.
